new term

so labour get a third term in power.. ppl seem kinda relieved abt it. to be honest i've been really rubbish at keepin up with politics, everythin that was said during the election campaign sort of went in one ear and out the other, all the arguments and nastiness made me a bit sceptical. in the end i made my decision largely based on the bbc news website's summary of the parties' manifestos (the night before polling day)!

i should hav spent more time engaging with it really! cos even tho politics can seem really convoluted and distant to young ppl, i guess the reality is that we live in a country where most things we encounter daily are governed by politicians, from waiting for a bus thats 20mins late to paying tax on a pint of beer. most of us complain abt these things and when it comes to election time we feel that one person's voice is so insignificant neway! but i guess thats a very cynical viewpoint.. seeing the recent images on tv of iraq's ppl going to polling stations to vote for the first time, and how it was so deeply emotional and tearful for many of them, it left a poignant image in my mind and made me think that in our democracy, voting shouldnt be jus a right but a duty, to honour how hard ppl fight to create this democracy... neway thats jus my little thoughts on a subject that i guess is way out of my depth!
