3 yrs of phd.. then THIS!

went to China China for 2nd time in 5 days last nite ^^ it was wiv lab ppl.. one guy Marius had his phd viva yesterday and after 4 (probably torturing) hours he got his phd!! well done him!! ^_^ i cant believe how scary it sounds to defend ur thesis.. but it sounds even scarier on the continent - in holland, for one, u sit in front of a panel of 12 judges who ask u a question one after the other and this goes round and round.. u sit with a friend of your choice on either side - these friends can help u answer the questions / help u find the pages of your thesis relevant to the question / help u write down the long complicated questions... (a bit like "phone a friend" on millionaire i guess!!) and u also have to write down 8 statements which you need to defend during the viva - 5 or 6 will come from your thesis, but a few will be about general life / society / politics / whatever u choose!! how crazy does that sound?!? $_$ boy am i glad to be british for once..


aside from that my life seems really dull this week.. all the undergrads have gone including some ppl i kno so campus feels kinda dead and life is slowly winding down to the Christmas hols.. oh i was so bored the other day that i started scrolling thru my archives on this blog (it was like reading your diary again and re-living it, weird!) and i read for the first time a message left by courtney aaages ago! sorry court! i guess i cant help u wiv canon's pressie seeing as tho his bday is over now! soz.. but yeah, isnt buyin for guys soo difficult?!
